SUBJECT: Establishment of UAN Foundation

Introduced by: E&GW Cabinet of the Michigan Nurses Association

Action: Passed 3/16/06

WHEREAS, the United American Nurses (UAN) established the National Labor Education Scholarship Fund in 2005; and

WHEREAS, UAN provided the initial investment of $10,000 to the fund; and

WHEREAS, the Scholarship Committee awarded 5-$1000 scholarships in 2006; and

WHEREAS, growth of the Fund is essential to continue to provide educational funding assistance to UAN members; and

WHEREAS, MNA and the Scholarship Committee believe that finding additional ways to encourage contributions/donations from other CMAs, non-profit groups and individuals to the Fund is vital to its growth;

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the United American Nurses form the UAN Foundation; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the UAN appoint a Foundation Board of Directors, including one member from the UAN Executive Council, to oversee and administer Funds donated to the Foundation for the primary purpose of increasing monies available for UAN scholarships and for other purposes as decided by the Foundation Board.
