SUBJECT: Resolution Deferring Establishment of Funding Mechanism and Guidelines for Mobilization Fund

Action: Passed 6/24/04

WHEREAS, the Executive Council recommended to the 2002 National Labor Assembly (NLA) that it approve the establishment of a Mobilization Fund to support local strikes, contract negotiations and administration, legal expenses, national organizing campaigns, media outreach and other efforts to defend and expand the interests of our members; and

WHEREAS, the 2003 NLA directed the UAN to submit to the 2004 NLA a specific recommendation for funding the Mobilization Fund, as well as guidelines for the distribution of monies from the fund; and

WHEREAS, in light of the magnitude of organizational and structural issues involved in the development and passage of the Proposed UAN Founding Constitution, the Executive Council has determined that its recommendations for a funding mechanism and guidelines for the Mobilization Fund should be deferred to the 2005 NLA;

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the UAN Executive Council submit to the 2005 NLA specific recommendations for funding the Mobilization Fund, as well as guidelines for the distribution of monies from the Mobilization Fund; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that, pending the 2005 NLA, the UAN Executive Council continue to provide support and assistance to local strikes, as appropriate, as it has in the past.
