SUBJECT: Resolution Regarding Retired UAN Members

WHEREAS, the average age of the Registered Nurse is 40+; and

WHEREAS, many UAN members have retired or will be retiring in the near future; and

WHEREAS, the UAN recognizes the importance of experience and leadership to its future; and

WHEREAS, many retired members have made important contributions and sacrifices for the advancement of the economic and general welfare of all nurses and the formation of the UAN; and

WHEREAS, retired members have historical knowledge of the labor movement and the advancement of the economic and general welfare of all nurses; and

WHEREAS, the success of the UAN as a union for nurses is built on the strength in numbers, experience and knowledge of its members,

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the UAN recognize retired members who want to remain active as consultants; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that as consultants, they would serve as advocates for nurses in collective bargaining.
