SUBJECT: Technical Correction to National VA Council Name

WHEREAS, the UAN, at the 2000 National Labor Assembly, resolved to create a "national Veterans Administration Hospitals council"; and

WHEREAS, a former General Counsel of the ANA formulated the Organizational Guidelines for this counsel using the name "National Veterans Health Administration Council"; and

WHEREAS, the name and scope of the former "Veterans Administration" was changed in 1991 by the elevation to a Cabinet-level agency and was renamed the Department of Veterans Affairs; and

WHEREAS, the council created by the UAN and referenced in the above-mentioned Organizational Guidelines has been widely known as the National Veterans Affairs Council and/or National VA Council, reflecting its position as the only Council servicing the consolidated bargaining unit of the United American Nurses within the Department of Veterans Affairs; and

WHEREAS, the consolidated VA bargaining unit has voted at its annual meeting to formally correct its name to "National Veterans Affairs Council";

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that, effective July 1, 2003, the name of the council created by the UAN will be the "National Veterans Affairs Council" and will be entitled to use the shortened title "National VA Council" and the abbreviation "NVAC."
