SUBJECT: Resolution on the UAN's Anniversary in 2005

WHEREAS, 2005 will mark the 5th anniversary of the establishment of the UAN; and

WHEREAS, in the last five years, the UAN has made tremendous progress, including reaching an agreement with the ANA to become an autonomous national labor union, securing an AFL-CIO charter, establishing a national VA bargaining unit and a national bargaining council, conducting extensive leadership and membership training, developing a national image and public relations presence, promoting a renewed commitment to organizing, supporting collective bargaining negotiations and concerted activities, and otherwise vigorously representing the rights of its members;

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the UAN Executive Council appoint a 5th Anniversary Committee to plan appropriate activities, commencing in September 2003, for a celebration in 2005; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the UAN Executive Council, at the 2003 NLA, solicit membership interest in serving on this Committee, after which the UAN Executive Council will designate six members to serve on the Committee, with appropriate officer participation in order to make a recommendation to the 2004 NLA.
