SUBJECT: The UAN Formative Years: A Strategic & Environmental Assessment

WHEREAS, considerable work has been devoted to laying a solid foundation on which the United American Nurses can continue to build a record of accomplishment, and
WHEREAS, the challenges facing the labor movement never cease and are constantly changing, and
WHEREAS, timely analyses of union competition, corporate structures, regulatory decisions and levers for change are essential guides for future successes, and
WHEREAS, the United American Nurses is fully cognizant that the environment drives strategy and that strategy, in turn, drives the use of resources,
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Executive Council of the United American Nurses direct the UAN Director to arrange for the first annual UAN strategic planning session in January 2002, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that such strategic planning session include one registered nurse activist leader selected by each UAN CMA in addition to the Executive Council leadership, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the UAN Executive Council report the outcome of the strategic planning session to the UAN National Labor Assembly along with the resolutions to be heard, also submitted no less than 60 days prior to the 2002 National Labor Assembly, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that such report assist in guiding the business of the 2002 National Labor Assembly to develop strategic and tactical objectives for the succeeding three years, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this session also take on the tasks of facilitating
A)ongoing communication among NLA members through out the year and
B) improved and more substantive communication within the actual annual Assembly.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the UAN Executive Council meet again for a second strategic planning assessment no later than January 2005.
