Jean Ross, RN
Secretary-Treasurer |
Minnesotan Jean Ross, RN, named UAN secretary-treasurer in 2006 and a member of the UAN Executive Council since June 2002, is a 33-year staff nurse whose specialty is vascular access.
Ross has led the bargaining unit at Fairview Southdale Hospital (Edina, Minn.) for nearly two decades, and has been a Minnesota Nurses Association state convention delegate and ANA national delegate. She has served on the MNA Economic and General Welfare Commission for six years-and has chaired the commission for four years.
On a local level as well, Ross truly has had an impact on the day-to-day lives of her fellow nurses. Her dedication to her craft and her colleagues helped keep them all up to date and on the same page, leading to strengthened bonds and cohesiveness most evident during their 2001 strike. As a result of the three-week strike, nurses in some Twin Cities facilities won a ground-breaking contract provision enabling them to close hospital units to admissions if nurses judge staffing to be below safe levels.
Ross also is active with trade unionists outside of UAN. She is a member of the Coalition of Labor Union Women (CLUW) and served as a CLUW national executive board delegate from 1999-2004. In addition, she has been a delegate to the Minnesota AFL-CIO convention and is a member of the Minneapolis Central Labor Union Council. Photo by Bill Burke, Page One, 2003. |
