Veteran patients are sicker than ever… VA facilities are facing budget cuts and reorganizations … and nurse staffing has been reduced by workload shifting, attrition and the inability to recruit and retain new nurses.

UAN, through its dedicated National VA Council (NVAC) tackles these tough issues and more by representing RNs and only RNs, locally and nationally—whether bargaining a groundbreaking national VA master contract for RNs, providing specialized training for VA nurses, or lobbying on Congressional bills and regulations affecting VA nurses.

UAN represents 6,000 Veterans Affairs RNs in 22 local bargaining units across the country.  Every NVAC officer is an RN elected by UAN VA members to voice staff nurses’ concerns and bargain to improve VA nursing and patient care.
