Crossing the Finish Line
You’re almost there, but it’s important to continue working until the end.
The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) will set the date for an election by mutual agreement of the two parties (employer and the RN representative). After the NLRB has set the election date, copies of the NLRB’s official Notice of Election will be posted at the facility in places where employee information is usually displayed.
The work doesn't stop because Election Day dawns. Keep working to make sure every nurse has an opportunity to cast a ballot free of coercion and intimidation. Monitor the counting of ballots and be ready to appeal any irregularities.
If a simple majority (51 percent) selects the union, it will be certified by the NLRB as the exclusive collective bargaining representative. Your employer is then required to recognize this representative and bargain with your union in good faith.
Now that you’ve successfully elected your union, it's time to negotiate your first contract!
