No More Forced Overtime

The Institute of Medicine reports that 25 percent of hospital nurses work more than 13 consecutive hours one or more times a week, increasing the risk of medical errors and fatigue, and affecting RNs’ health.

UAN contracts make a difference:

  • Thousands of RNs have the right to refuse overtime in their contract:  “NO nurse shall be disciplined for refusal to work overtime.”
  • Nurses in Illinois have led the charge in the state legislature to pass groundbreaking legislation that prohibits mandatory overtime and protects patients and nurses.
