Better Wages & Benefits for Nurses

RNs are generally undervalued for their skills, education and responsibility.  But we can no longer accept being invisible on the hospital room bill.  UAN nurses bargain for competitive pay and benefits because we want to attract the best nurses in the profession.

UAN nurses have bargained for

  • Wage increases of up to 26 percent for clinical RNs at University of Michigan
  • Wage scale expansion that recognizes years of experience and service
  • Annual across-the-board pay increases—no favoritism allowed
  • Clinical ladders that offer promotional opportunities within the bargaining unit
  • Shift differentials of 25 percent and more
  • Weekend premiums
  • Holiday, on-call and call-back pay

Benefits recognize the commitment RNs make to their profession and career.  Sick leave, disability, vacation time, fully pad health insurance and pensions are successfully negotiated by UAN RNs.  UAN agreements provide

  • Retiree health benefits
  • Disability retirement plan
  • Tuition assistance
  • Annual “loyalty bonuses” rewarding RNs with 20 or more years of service to the hospital
  • Maternity leave for a period of up to six months without the loss of benefits
